Government Museum TiruchirappalliThe government museum of Tiruchirappalli is located in Mangammal Mahal, close to the super Bazaar. The major attractions of the Trichy government museum include splendid carvings of Vardhamana Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, ancient fossils, antique coins, prehistoric tools, agrarian implements and a lot of renowned Tanjore paintings.

The attraction of this museum includes crawling Krishna idol, Goddess Durga, Saint Manickavasagar, Chandra Sekhare and Lord Nataraj. The museum also contains an exclusive section for Tribal materials along with a model of Pachaimalai hills. The museum also holds a collection of ancient coins that are not in use now. It also abodes certain earthen and metal moulds with inscribed writings on them along with a few palm leaf manuscripts.

The sculpture park opened at the Government Museum is one of the most attractive places to be visited. The sculpture park started functioning from April 2012. This park contains 45 statues of god and goddesses that are dated to be from 13th century.Some of the stone sculptures are arranged in unique individual platform while others are lined up in a single long platform. Apart from statues of Vishnu, Sridevi, Brahma, Ganesha, Murugan and Dwarkabalala, the park also includes an 18 century sacrificial altar, stones, nandhis and lingams.

The Government is also planning to waive the entrance fee for students to attract visitors and also help them in learning something new about ancient India.
